Burn the ladder is a folk musician bearing a sharp tongue and a big heart. She combines the rich story-telling tradition of folk music with the wit and sensibilities of a protest singer in a bitter-sweet catalog of hope, sorrow, joy and fury.

Burn the Ladder is the stage name of Georgia Bell, a queer solo artist based in South Wales. Originally from London, she chose Wales for the mountains, the trees, and the wonderful creative people carpeting the landscape.  Her music emphasises open and direct lyrics; whether they are talking about painful personal moments or her opposition to right-wing politicians, there is very little space between the artist, the art, and the audience.

Julie Murphy ( voice ) and Ceri Rhys Matthews ( flute ) are founder members of groundbreaking Welsh folk group fernhill. Together they perform traditional songs and dance tunes from Wales and beyond, with particular emphasis on the music and poetry of West Wales. 

Julie Murphy is regarded internationally as one of Britain's finest folk singers. Her remarkable voice, spectrally beautiful one moment and darkly rich the next, has led to collaborations with music legends like John Cale, Robert Plant and Danny Thompson. 

Ceri Rhys Matthews is an artist, fine, fine flute player and central figure in the celebration and sharing of the traditional music of Wales, both through performances and through the annual winter and summer tune schools he runs in Llandysul, Carmarthenshire and Tremarchog, Pembrokeshire.

Ivy Hughes-Dennis is a ranting anarchist comedy folk musician (and she promises that’s not as bad as it sounds). She’s toured folk, punk, and stand up circuits around Europe for over a decade, playing short sarcastic kick-in-the-teeth bangers, and having supported cult icons like Jon Richardson, Grace Petrie, and Crywank. As punk poet titan Attila the Stockbroker put it, she is “the only person to make the ukulele not entirely shit”. High praise.

An experimental, multi-instrumental folk duo taking inspiration from folk traditions of the black diasporic trans-atlantic world. Chuck SJ is a multidisciplinary artist and performer. They can be found on a stage near you doing stand up / drag / music / poetry / MC'ing cabaret events. This Punk Powerhouse is well known for their intoxicating stage performance, unique guitar skills and unapologetic honesty. As well as creating their own works, Chuck composes for musicals and does sound design for theatre makers. Having already completed 5 European tours, 12 UK tours, 15 albums and 2 EPs, they are currently in the process of writing their own musical titled Eat Your Heart Out. In summer 2023 launched BYENARY events, a music events production that prioritises Trans and/or non-binary musicians by bringing live music back into queer night life.

A music producer, filmmaker and organiser, previously focused on electronic music, when Brenda's friends took them to last year's AFF they were enchanted, and inspired to pick up their viola and flute again and explore the world of folk music. Shortly after, they made a film, showing how to organise a direct action - but told through folk songs. The songs are all narratively connected and emotionally deeply rooted in the struggle of organising for Palestine in Berlin since October 2023. They will be perfoming these songs at AFF '25, together with their dear friends, comrades and musical companions.

Cirenne is a singular duo playing new, experimental music at an intersection of klezmer, folk, and free improvisation, using violin, viola, trumpet and electronics. Cheap Dirty Horse are a big rowdy queer trash folk-punk band from Nottingham. Blending acoustic and electric guitar with banjo, accordion, bass, drums, and sometimes mandolin, they write energetic, joyful protest music. Welsh guitarist, composer and arranger Gareth Rees hails from a small village in the Brecon Beacons. Growing up in one of the most beautiful parts of the world has resulted in a strong connection to the land, a connection that he attempts to show through his arrangements of Welsh traditional melodies for solo fingerstyle guitar. Drawing influence from the likes of Tony McManus, Pierre Bensusan and Ben Walker, his mesmerising arrangements aim to paint a hazy picture of Welsh landscapes and legends.

Emerging alt-folk artist Claire Vine is fast gaining a reputation for writing songs that sound like they've always existed. She has a knack for condensing urgent political and social commentary into concise, uncompromising moments of raw beauty. Her debut EP Tunnel was released in December 2020, comprising six original songs, between them all a thread of honest observations about the state of the world.

Unashamedly political and poignantly personal, her songs are inspired by protest movements, the refugee crisis and her longing for justice in a more sustainable world. Her lyrics are at once a call to action and a space for contemplation, blending passion and pragmatism in each memorable song. Claire has recently recorded her debut album featuring Sid Goldsmith and Tamsin Elliott, to be released in March 2026.

Revuelta Acústika is a band formed by ones spanish violinist and 2 colombians guitar player in 2024 in London, composed of two guitarists and a violinist. The band compiles Latin American protest songs, as well as songs from the Spanish anarchist tradition and songs from the Civil War. It also incorporates elements of memory recovery through the musicalization of poetry by friends who no longer accompany us in this earthly world. Revuelta Acústika has a libertarian songbook of songs translated from Spanish to English.
